Certificate of Testing vs a Switchboard Health Report

Homeowners often get more than one document after electrical work and assume they mean the same thing.

They usually don’t.

A Queensland Certificate of Testing and a Switchboard Health Report do different jobs. You might receive one, the other, or both — depending on what was done.

One document is about certifying certain electrical work where Queensland requires it.

The other is about recording what we found when we looked at safety-switch protection and the practical state of the switchboard.

Mixing them up is how people end up thinking a package “makes the whole house compliant.” That is not how this works.

What a Certificate of Testing is for

A Certificate of Testing is issued where the work requires it under Queensland electrical safety rules.

It is tied to the work that was done. It is not a general “whole house is fine forever” stamp.

What a Switchboard Health Report is for

A Switchboard Health Report records safety-switch verification findings and practical recommendations for the switchboard.

It is Atlas’s way of writing down what we tested, what we saw, and what we recommend next — in plain language you can keep with your records.

It does not replace a Certificate of Testing where one is required. It does a different job.

Why you might receive both

Some scopes produce both.

Example: smoke-detection renewal work that requires a Certificate of Testing, plus safety-switch verification that is recorded in a Switchboard Health Report. Both can sit in your baseline. More on how records fit together in Why electrical records matter after the work is finished.

What happens if something fails

Failed testing belongs in the Switchboard Health Report with clear findings.

Remediation is not assumed. If the board needs work beyond the agreed package, that is quoted separately before anything extra proceeds.

Atlas’s approach is honesty about scope. A report that finds a problem is still useful — it is not a free repair ticket.
